Etcetera

There are many, many people out there painting furniture, but every once in a while I come across one of those people who for one reason or another stands out in the sea of paint. I get this crazy notion to email them, get to know them, and  chat it up about all things furniture.
In the case of Marian and her blog Miss Mustard Seed, I straight up skipped the email step and picked up the phone and called her! I know....sweat inducing crazy cold calling at best, but I am so glad that I did! We have talked on the phone almost every day since that first phone call and we both get so excited about what we are talking about that we constantly have to apologize to each other for interrupting! Marian is a busy wife and mom who is living her creative dream, and that resonates with me....as well as so many other life seasons and circumstances that we both share.

You may or may not think it strange that we would be friends rather than competitors, but It comes down to the fact that even though we both paint furniture and use a lot of the same techniques, we each have our own unique style and aesthetic. We tend to choose very similar pieces of furniture but the end results are true to Miss Mustard Seed and Knack all the way! The fact that she enjoys styling and photographing her work as much as I do ....well that just adds to the goodness! We are talking about collaborating on a project ...but more on that to come.

Please stop by Miss Mustard Seed  say "hello" and take in her creations and designs.(You may see someone you know featured there today! wink!) Marian not only paints, but she sews like a champ and there are lots of helpful tutorials for your reading pleasure as well as articles for HGTV.com and several other publications...like Cottages and Bungalows... so make sure you do not miss catching up on all that she has going on! If you would like to purchase her work you can do so directly through her, or you can visit The Old Lucketts Store in Leesburg, VA.
Have a wonderful weekend! I am looking forward to warm temperatures, soccer, church, and time with friends and family!

Found Goodness

Seriously my friends....do not hate me for this fantastic metal lawyers cabinet that I scored at the goodwill this week. I did nothing to it except wipe it down, and bring it in the kitchen. (how about that blue! whew!) It is exactly what I was wanting for this space, and I dream of filling it with beautiful cook books and pretties....the only problem is.....my 14 year old son has taken a liking to it, and thinks he may want it for his room redo.
I say...."put up your dukes mister!"

So, let me tell you what I love about this room. One of the design trends that I noticed while scouring the market this year was polka dots. Polka dots and stripes were everywhere, and we are going to see a lot more of them.....on everything!
I love the way that the polka dots on these walls look so clean and modern because they are mixed with a fantastic patterned paper, industrial lighting, and a bright yellow office chair.
This is such a beautiful space to me.....the 4ft tall stack of magazines and the little white creature on the mantle just kill me....love it all.

Introductions

Hello, hello! Hope you all had a smashing weekend! Here in the Carolinas we had lots and lots of rain, so after an exciting soccer game on Saturday morning...(my son had new cleats, and he played like a beast!)... it was a cuddle up and stay dry kind of weekend....so nice to chill.
Obviously, I got a little carried away with the pictures ....hee, hee, hah... of my introductions today....but, I hope you enjoy anyway!
I am thrilled to introduce to you.....Wrigley and Calumet. I picked these names because they have to do with Chicago, which just happens to be where their owners are from.
A few weeks back I had some visitors at the studio wanting a couple custom pieces for their new mountain home. They walked in, we chatted about colors and fabrics.... and away we went! They flew back to Chicago, and I got to work! I am awaiting their return so that they can see them in person, and take them to their new home in the mountains!
This olive green will fit in perfectly I do believe!

Wink!

I sure hope you all had a great week this week ....accomplishing much....powering through the hard days...and blazing new trails! Happy weekending!!

Found Goodness

Now, you all know I love me some numbers and letters....so imagine my delight when my friend Lily scored these beauties for me a few months back during a local retail store remodel! They were not horrible in their original colors, but I felt like they could use a little knack in their life.....so while they sat in their little basket for a few months begging for some fun, I planned and thought....and then I finally acted on those plans. There are 21 total (wowsers!) and they are each like little pieces of furniture. I paint them, apply paper, sand, and apply poly... so it will take me a few weeks to get them all done and listed in the etsy shop.... but I will get there.....look for these three in the next couple of  days!
{The sweet little nightstand is one of two pieces that I just finished for a client...what about those knobs? delish.}
