Spring is coming ....I can feel it in the change of the weather...the warmer days.....the light lingering a bit longer........and I am so ready for the green leaves to burst forth from their winter slumber, for the trees to explode with color from blooms that can no longer bear to stay trapped inside their pods.A season of new life after patience in dormancy is always such a refreshing season.xo,Barb

concrete and succulents:: spring is coming

IMG_1627 IMG_1628 IMG_1629 I am home today, because of a little ice storm that hit us here in the south. There is no school, there is no urgency for me to rush to the shop....and for that I am grateful. I can stay at home with my kids (who are out of school), get lots of work done, plan, daydream, and just chill. An added bonus to this situation is that yesterday was my day off, and I spent it grocery shopping and cleaning my house....so I am icebound in a very well stocked and perfectly clean house. How often does that happen? Hot diggity dog!All of this ice makes me think about these pretty plantings that we did recently at Knack. I absolutely love these industrial concrete planters that we sell in the shop, (we have little concrete tea cups too!), and I really love seeing them with filled with fresh earth and succulents in all shades of green. seeing these plump and healthy plants makes me excited for Spring, and for many more plantings of fresh herbs and flowers. Fresh flowers and green plants are truly life giving for me, and I have made a vow to have them in the shop at all times.My current shop collection consists of a stag horn fern, two fiddle leaf figs, several air plants, and vases full of fresh cut flowers. I am forcing Spring to arrive, and currently pretending I have an entire greenhouse situation going on inside the walls at Knack!Think warm thoughts my friends! (especially those of you up north!)xo,Barb

Spring colors and triangles for a coffee table named "Elusine"

FrogTapebeauty frogtapebeauty2It is definitely Spring, and I cannot even tell you how her colors have inspired this piece of furniture. The blooming trees, the green green grass, and the many flowers opening their faces to the sun have me very inspired.Remember when I lamented a bit about the Pantone color of the year being radiant orchid? I am not a huge fan of purple in any shade...but I was determined to find a way to use it my work...and at the same time stay true to the Knack aesthetic. In this coffee table design, I use radiant orchid not once...but TWICE! Once in its original state, and then I added a little somethin' somethin' {white paint} to create a little lighter shade. I absolutely love the color palette of pink, orange, lavender, gold, and orchid, and this palette was completely inspired by a bouquet of Ranunculus flowers I purchased a couple weeks back.I think it is fun, yet again, to combine the hard edges and points of the geometric triangles with the feminine and curvy lines of this sweet table. The perfect pairing if you will.I used FrogTape® to create the custom triangle designs on top of the table, and there is a full step by step "how to" up on the FrogTape blog here! If you decide that miss Elusine needs to come live with you, she IS available for purchase at Knack! {and if you freakin' love the dish towel hanging on the wall, {me! me!} you can get that at Knack too!} We are all about some goodness for the home around here!Hope you enjoy!xo,BarblogosmallI received compensation to complete this project for using FrogTape® products. All opinions, projects and ideas are based on my own experience.

 My friend lily is working on a new Spring jewelry line that will include moths, mini terrariums, beautiful metal bugs, and flowers. This is just a little sneaky peeky at one that I snagged for myself already. {selfish little stinky me!}
I promise to let you know when they are available for purchase in the etsy shop.
Get frothy.
Hope you all have a beautiful weekend!

Barb

 I have been working on a plan for the front of the studio, and dreaming of planting some flowers again. I was waiting until the weather got warmer....and well.....it has been in the 70's and 80' here the past few weeks!
While I am still having a hard time narrowing down what I want to put out front because... it has to be weather resistant, not metal....because metal tends to vanish around the studio parts {wink!}, heavy enough so that it can't be carted off, colorful, and knack worthy. Whew!...that is a tall order I tell you!
I hope to get it narrowed down here in the next few weeks, and finally have some beautiful color back out in front of the studio.
I absolutely love the idea of these little colorful tin can gardens. What a sweet gift to give a neighbor or friend ...while recycling and making something useful again all at the same time......good stuff.

Barb
