My sweet, sweet mom asked me to help her start brainstorming some ideas for her sun porch that she is getting ready to transform. So, I started looking around for some goodness all the while thinking of her criteria: comfortable seating that can be used as an extra bed, great rug{s}, place for the grand kids to play/hang, and storage. You may find that my collection of photos is a little all over the place....but there is a method to my madness! I love parts of every photo, and I will explain below.
It was hard for me to pinpoint one porch that completely captured my mom and her style, so I just pulled together some inspirational photographs that had some really cool design ideas:
1. great rugs, and the layering of different sizes and colors is casual and fun.
2. again, love the rugs.....and even though the bed is a little small I love the way it looks with the stack of books beside it. Also, the artwork on the wall reminds me of how much my mom likes to display her kid's artwork, and I think the porch would definitely need some artwork from the grandkids!
3. love the window trim in this photo, and the beautiful gray blue shade. The colors of this whole photo are very soothing.
4. I think a blue ceiling is a must, and my mom will not like the couches here, but I would! hee hee!
5. Everyone knows that a painted chest of drawers is so multi functional and perfect for all of your storage needs! {wink!}
6. This bench is perfection, and a fun DIY that dad and I could make!
7. "I do not like all the white and tan, I do not like it sam I am" {in my best Dr Seuss voice} but I do love that this daybed could be an extra bed or a comfy reading spot with storage to boot.
8. I threw these guys in for fun because who wouldn't want to have a grouping of succulents to stare at every day while on your porch?!
Porches are great.
Hope you like these ideas mom!

Outdoor Roomage.....in a way......somehow
From the very first time I laid eyes on the building that would become my studio, this outdoor wall has been a favorite of mine. I have wanted to photograph in front of it for ages...and don't really know why I haven't yet ;/ But , a photographer who was shooting for an up and coming magazine article {yipee} on Knack did shoot the Union Jack in front of this wall. It was so stunning, and when he showed me the photos...I almost cried I loved them so much. Corny.....totally.....but for real.
Anyway, I think it would be so cool to do some graffiti tagging on the side of my building and paint this...

....and then stage a piece of furniture off center....
oh my dear...I must do this soon.....or I will burst.
Just one more thing to add to my to do list for the summer!

To me, this room set up is so soothing and beautiful. It has a very simple and subtle look....but when you look deeper it is so full of texture and color . Look at the plates with the great blue graphics, the dark centers on the posies, the different color candles, the gray of the wood, the purples, the blush pinks, and those white tufted chairs......oh my!
I have this photo saved in my favorites....and would love to create this environment for a meal one day. Seems like the perfect place to sit around and love on all your favorite people while enjoying great food and beverage.......:)

Imagine waking up to this piece of divine every day? In my opinion, this little slice of roomage is "epic"...and a well played move....by some obviously very talented color geniuses!

Today's roomage is an extra special one....because it is the newly "freshened" room of my 12 year old "B"! This past weekend B was away on her spring retreat and we went to town transforming her room from top to bottom. A few things stayed the same, but we changed the walls from blue to gray, added a chalkboard wall, new artwork {two of them are B originals: glasses, and three birdies}, new curtains, a new dresser, a new nightstand {transformed by Knack}, new light, new shelf above the dresser, and new sheets for the bed.
It was no small task...especially since we had about 48 hours to do it all. The hardest part was going through all of "B's" collections and piles of special"junk". B is a creative, and on top of being creative she is a pack rat....so getting lots of new storage in order to organize her possessions was key for this redo. We are still going through the last three piles, but we have come so very far and it feels beyond good for everything to be fresh and new....and in its place.
If you would like to see a few more shots, and the room before the freshen....visit Knack's facebook page.

How did she respond to the new look?

We have so many summer projects on our list....I hope we can get them all done! One of the projects is to switch the guest bedroom and my son's bedroom. My boy is needing more room to spread out, and the existing guest bedroom is so much larger than his tiny little room, so we think it is time to create a new space for both him and our guests.
I want to create a really comfortable inviting space for our guests, and I think this saying on the wall over the guest bed would be wonderful. I would probably change the "my" to "our"...and use a different font...but I think it is super inviting. I also love the upholstered fabric headboard, and have the perfect pink/beige chenille print that I could do this with......hmmmm....like I said...hope we can crunch it all in!
My eyes are bigger than my decorating stomach! I have decided though, that I need to spend some time in my own house sprucing up and styling.....it has been too long.
