Shelly Leer has owned her own upholstery design business for the past fifteen years. Graduating with a B.S. in Education with a concentration in Textiles and Design from Butler University, Shelly rediscovered her love for teaching when she was hired to teach sewing to women and children who were living at Coburn Place, a long term housing facility for women and children who fled domestic abuse. Working with the women and teenage children, Shelly realized how much she loves teaching what she knows. She is slated to teach Teen Sewing at the Indianapolis Art Center this summer and a class for teens in the Fall, sewing for their bedroom. Prior to her re-entry into teaching, Shelly apprenticed with a Brit furniture designer and upholsterer, Paul A. Howard, who has worked with interior designers and architects around the country.
