Etcetera

We have reached the end of another very hot summer week. I wish I had gotten more accomplished at the new studio, but it was so nice to have some time to sit back and relax with friends and family for the fourth. My friend Amy brought over these beautiful flowers for me from her garden! Aren’t they fantastic?! The super fun red sandals are an early BIRTHDAY treat to myself……oh and the glittery tank is as well! Yippee….the celebrating started early this year! Oh, and I literally lived off of bowls of freezing cold watermelon balls. They are so refreshing, and my new summer staple.

I hope to make a major dent in the studio work today! I spent 2 hours cleaning the bathroom on Tuesday! Seriously…I may have gone a bit mister clean on myself but the sparkly beautiful bathroom with its new rug, and towels is so inviting! Today, I will be sweeping, vacuuming, and sealingĀ  the concrete floor and wall in the work space in order to help with dust, and to help keep the floors as clean and easily maintained as possible. i am going to work hard today so that I can enjoy MY BIRTHDAY tomorrow!! woot, woot! I am going to party like it is 2012! ……and for all of you who I know want to ask……the number is 38.

Have a great weekend!

I think every time one of these giant pieces enters my studio I can almost hear the angels singing. I swear it. In my painting career I have had the privilege of transforming several of these gentle giants, but this one is extra special for a couple of reasons:

1. It belongs to one of the sweetest couples I know and I am truly honored to be trusted with their treasure.

2. It was such a mess with all of it’s white paint splatters and chipping veneer, so the prep work was intense, but that made the end result all the more rewarding.

I know there are those who look on these types of pieces as useless, victorian era, gaudy, yucky…….but seriously, in my opinion you can’t find a better statement piece that not only commands the room it resides in but also offers multiple storage and usage options. Painting these types of pieces brings them into the modern era and gives them a fresh and new aesthetic that surprisingly crosses multiple decorating styles. The detail on these pieces can’t be beat, and truly shines with a coat of paint. I also love painting the insides a bright and eye catching color so that it is always a pleasure to open the door. {wink}

 Meet “Kammer”. This little beauty came from Charlotte, NC for me to makeover and make new. My client had purchased it a few years ago at a flea market, and while the light blue patina on the dresser worked for a while, it was time for a refresher in order to fit into the new space designed for this piece. When turquoise was the color of choice I knew little miss would be a winner when completed.
I took a little bit of liberty and added pink knobs for the photo shoot since the original knobs are staying on the piece……but …you know…..I just had to…..it’s what I do.
{P.S. the super fly “hooray” banner was made by my sister, and you can check out more of her work in her etsy shop……cranny}

FYI

…I know those of you who follow me on instagram have already seen this picture….but for those of you who have not seen this little lovely…….
….this is my giant marbled clay pot that I picked up on the side of the road….and it was so heavy that my son and his buddy had to help me lift it! I am happy to report that it has found a happy home at the studio front door……and I hope to add more and more pots to the studio collection soon. I think groupings of orphaned pots falls right in line with the Knack philosophy……don’t you?

Hello, hello! I hope you all had a great weekend! My weekend was so busy and very full….but a lot was accomplished…and that is a great feeling!
I am super excited about the beautiful piece of furniture I have for you today! Meet “Aurelie” …….french for “golden”.  I am so into pink and gold lately….I can’t get enough of this color combination. I am also really into triangles and geographic shapes…..you will see much more of this in the days to come {wink!}
Enjoy her glittery goodness!
{and p.s look for her in the etsy shop later today or tomorrow!}

 I have been working on a plan for the front of the studio, and dreaming of planting some flowers again. I was waiting until the weather got warmer….and well…..it has been in the 70′s and 80′ here the past few weeks!
While I am still having a hard time narrowing down what I want to put out front because… it has to be weather resistant, not metal….because metal tends to vanish around the studio parts {wink!}, heavy enough so that it can’t be carted off, colorful, and knack worthy. Whew!…that is a tall order I tell you!
I hope to get it narrowed down here in the next few weeks, and finally have some beautiful color back out in front of the studio.
I absolutely love the idea of these little colorful tin can gardens. What a sweet gift to give a neighbor or friend …while recycling and making something useful again all at the same time……good stuff.
