I firmly believe that community {accountability and interactions with other humans} is essential to a healthy life. I have so much room to grow in this area, and have made many mistakes….but i firmly believe that choosing your community is not to be taken lightly.
I encourage you to not only choose people who inspire you, but also people who challenge you to be better, people who aren’t afraid to call you out when you are wrong, people who give of themselves both in time and money, people who listen to you, people who value who you are, people who encourage and motivate you to do the hard things, people who don’t always tell you what you want to hear, people who will fight for truth.
This is hard…..and some feelings may be hurt along the way…..but that is just part of being truly vulnerable and real.
The consequences for not choosing your community wisely will lead to a shallow emptiness full of flowery words and false assumptions.

Yes, I agree…it is OK to be choosy. Great advice!
It is ok!……hard to practice for those of us {me!} who like to keep everybody happy at all times……but so crucial to healthy community.

I hope you have a lovely day too, Geisslein! Hope the sun is shining! xo
Thanks! I needed to hear this today.
You are so welcome……I needed to write it…and read it today….:} I hope you have a great day!
Amen! I have recently drastically changed careers and now I’m working on how to make the other parts of my life match up to that choice. I used to work in marketing and spent my days with people who took, took, took. Now I’m teaching poetry to arts students in high school and I am so full of inspiration from these glorious kids everyday. This is excellent advice Barb. Thank you for sharing!
Tiffany, Wow! I am so happy for you! How wonderful that you are teaching….and pouring into others! Isn’t it awesome when you get away from the “take” of whatever the situation, whether it be friends, work, family etc……and get into a pouring into / giving situation?! Feels great! Kudos! I wish you the best!
I finally figured this out for good a few years ago. This is an absolute truth, and it was hard to let go of the drainers, but so much freeing in my energy levels!
karen, you are 100 percent right….so glad you had the strength and the will to rise above. It is so very hard……..
Preach! Amen sistah! Xo
